The Restart Project | Role: UX Researcher and Designer

Tasks: scoping/ advisement to senior management on HCD Approaches, strategy, heuristic and analytics review, qual and quant Research, recruitment (minimal), analysis, service design concepting, report writing, wireframing, UX writing
A lean, mobile-first community platform redesign project for a global environmental nonprofit organizing repair events and advocating for the right to repair. Redesigned for greater usefulness and usability, based on audit and research with various types of users. The Restarters.net community member platform integrates a Discourse forum module and a Wiki, but the site very much appeared to be three separate sites with significant navigation and usability challenges. Generation
Wireless Generation (now Amplify) | Role: User Researcher, Product Designer
Key project elements: highly Agile process, educational/ instructional
Tasks: qual research, wireframing, conceptual design, strategy, specifications, visual design
User research in schools with teachers using handheld devices for testing literacy in elementary students. Wireframing and Photoshop mockups of software for literacy testing and conceptual design for Reading Coach application/ game, which uses voice and speech recognition to give students real-time feedback on their literacy skills.

In-depth user research with funders and creators of documentary media to explore potential usefulness of Media Cloud, a global news media analysis platform, in their work. Project scoping, heuristic UX and learning experience analysis, including input on complex data visualization functionality, task analysis (part of instructional design process), user interviews, user workshop with journey mapping and other collaborative exercises, in-depth user research report, and Getting Started guide that I wrote and for which I ran usability testing. Planet OS
Planet OS | Role: UX Researcher, Designer, Writer
Key project elements: global user base, startup in Estonia
Tasks: scoping/ advisement to senior management on HCD approaches, qual research, wireframing, UX writing (marketing, instructional, navitorial)
Based in the USA and Tallinn, Estonia, Planet OS is an API provider and custom integration service that gives a wide variety of users the ability to work easily with multiple earth science datasets in the creation of applications for sectors such as renewable energy.
I focused on engagement as well as usability issues for browsing a large number of datasets and testing out the API.
